Consuming organic ingredients is a simple way to benefit not only you but the planet. Organic farming practices support soil, water, the climate, and biodiversity. Organic farmers utilize crop rotations and natural fertilizers to improve soil structure and improve nutrient and energy cycling. Well managed organic systems with better nutrient retentive abilities, greatly reduce the risk of groundwater pollution. Organic agriculture reduces non-renewable energy use by decreasing agrochemical needs (these require high quantities of fossil fuel to be produced). Organic agriculture contributes to mitigating the greenhouse effect and global warming through its ability to sequester carbon in the soil.
Animal agriculture is one of the largest contributors of human-made greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, water pollution and air pollution. Reducing animal consumption is one of the most effective methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Animal agriculture uses nearly 1/3 of the drinking water available and produces enormous amounts of waste which is stored in lagoons, sprayed onto fields, and leaks into the aquifer and nearby rivers and streams.
