Shilajit: A Mineral Masterpiece Millions of Years in the Making

The magic of minerals

For anyone trying to hop on the health-wagon, one of the most important factors to focus on is re-mineralization. Without sufficient minerals in the body, you simply cannot absorb vitamins. On its own, your body can synthesize select vitamins including vitamin K, vitamin D, and vitamin B3, however we are not able to synthesize minerals – thus, it is crucial to replenish them daily. There are an exorbitant amount of essential minerals needed for the body, but unfortunately it is nearly impossible to receive adequate amounts today from food alone.

Where do minerals come from?

Minerals primarily come from the earth, but contemporary farming practices have depleted the mineral content in conventional soil to low levels. Additionally, Mindell states in his Vitamin Bible: “The body does not use whatever it takes in, most of us do not digest our foods efficiently, only about 2-10% of iron taken into the body is actually absorbed, and even w/ this small percentage, 50% of that is then eliminated.” For these reasons alone, one might say we are all experiencing some degree of “mineral starvation”.

Enter: Shilajit.

This black tar-like rock has been produced for millions of years from plants and organic matter trapped in the layers of the Himalayan Mountains above 8,000 feet in elevation. Shilajit (properly pronounced Sil'-i-jeet") contains a high concentration of trace minerals including fulvic and humic acids, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper, nickel, potassium, manganese, silicon, silver, sodium, sulfur, iodine, and more. This magical substance literally translates to “conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness,” and has been proven to benefit our bodies in countless ways.

Inside the core structure of shilajit, C60 has formed strong molecular bonds with other potent antioxidant compounds known as Dibenzo-Alpha-Pyrones (DBPs). Generally speaking, C60 is basically an antioxidant on steroids! It's so effective that it is estimated to have a capacity several hundred times more than that of any other antioxidant. DBPs preserve our body's natural antioxidants (e.g. co-enzyme Q10), keeping our immune system stable. They also work very closely with the way we make energy on a cellular level by supplying the mitochondria with electrons at a faster speed, translating to more energy!

Benefits of Shilajit:

  • Improves sexual health
  • Anti-viral
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Regulates Blood Sugar
  • Stabilizes Mood
  • High in Antioxidants
  • Improves Sleep
  • Boosts Minerals
  • Fights Diseases
  • Powerful Anti-inflammatory

Where can I buy Shilajit + How do I use it?

There is plenty of companies that offer high quality shilajit, but be aware of the extraction process as some of shilajit is extracted with toxic petroleum that defeats the healing properties of this amazing superfood. One of the companies that we like is Cymbiotika they offer one the highest qualities of shilajit. It's important for shilajit to have been low-heat raw extracted because it simply produces one of the purest forms of shilajit available. At low-heat water extraction doesn't compromise its powerful properties like Dibenzo alpha Pyrones, plant-based trace minerals, amino acids, and naturally-occurring high concentrations of Fulvic acid.

I started with 1/4 of teaspoon in 16oz of water or as a tea and increased the ratio over time.

I have to admit: this stuff really works. After consistently drinking shilajit daily for about 3mo. to re-mineralize my body, I’m easily able to maintain my energy levels throughout the day without any caffeine.

So, if you ever get ahold of a cup of shilajit tea, close your eyes and appreciate its amazing journey because it took that little bit of shilajit millions of years, simmering in the mountains, waiting to become part of you.
