Kitchen Staples: Martina Kostow Shares Her Philosophy Behind Keeping a Healthy, Happy Household

May 13, 2022

As a mother of two adorable girls, and managing partner of multiple restaurant concepts alongside her husband Chef Christopher Kostow, Martina is always looking for the easiest ways for her and her family to eat healthy without any of the hassle.

Keeping her home full of these nutrient-dense kitchen staples is an essential element in keeping everyone feeling their best.

To avoid reaching for processed snacks or meals, here are the key items that are consistently stocked in the Kostows' fridge at home:

  1. Avocados
  2. Seasonal Fruits
    1. Grapes
    2. Apples
    3. Pears
    4. Seasonal Berries
    5. Tomatoes
  3. Seasonal Vegetables
    1. Raw Carrots
    2. Broccoli + Cauliflower
    3. Eggplant
    4. Greens – Kale, bitters, lettuces, etc.
  4. 2 - Dozen Eggs
  5. Babybel Lights or other low-fat cheeses
  6. Hummus
  7. Turkey Bacon and turkey sliced from the deli counter

Besides washing the fruits and vegetables, the only initial prep includes hard-boiling a dozen eggs – making it easy for a grab-and-go snack for the entire family.

The other items may be utilized in countless ways throughout the week; enjoying the seasonal vegetables alongside the hummus, combining the fruits for breakfast, or sliced avocado and eggs on toast.

The Babybel Lights are possibly the easiest for the girls to grab as an after-school snack or for Martina to toss in her purse before heading to a meeting.

Depending on the season, Martina will grab whatever catches her eye. The seasonal fruits this week include green grapes, blueberries, apples and pears, while the vegetables available were stalks of broccoli, raw carrots, and eggplant.
