I Tried Blue Cannatine Smart Troche For The First Time And This Is What Happened

A mystery envelope arrived in the mail. For months, my ex-husband Neil Strauss had been raving about these enigmatic blue squares that light up your brain with focus and energy. They also have the strange tendency to turn your tongue blue. I had been so curious about them, but their website said that they weren’t available to the public yet. Lucky for me, I was hosting a biohacking wellness event that weekend, and the envelope that was sent to me was full of these blue squares as part of a giveaway. Blue cannatine smart troches were developed by Dr. Ted Achacoso under the company name Troscriptions. Its name blue cannatine is a combination of its ingredients: Methylene blue, caffeine, hempcanna, and nicotine--pretty cute. The directions however were a little tricky. Actually, this mystery bag didn’t come with any instructions at all, but rather a QR code. Being the most impatient person I am, of course I did not scan the code. The instructions say that you are supposed to put one quarter of the square in between your upper lip and gum since nicotine is delivered to the bloodstream via absorption by the tissues in the mouth. I instead put it all in my mouth before reading the instructions and chewed it cookie monster style before realizing I was doing it wrong. I had to spit it out and start over again, this time in a composed adult-like manner. While I waited for the effects, I sat to read more about nicotine and all the other ingredients.

IS NICOTINE GOOD FOR ME?

Now the first thing you might be thinking is why are you taking a product that contains the highly addictive ingredient nicotine. Well, first of all, nicotine when isolated and taken alone is less addicting -- maybe as addicting as coffee. The reason why people are addicted to cigarettes is because of the hundreds of chemicals that are added. People are addicted to those chemicals. The tar of the cigarettes and the toxic gases are carcinogenic. However, nicotine is a known cognitive enhancer. It has been shown in a few studies to have pronounced effects on the brain of Alzheimer’s patients. It decreases memory impairment, as well as mood related issues like anxiety and depression. The body of research is growing; nicotine has the ability to work as an antioxidant in the brain and may also help those who are suffering from Parkinson’s disease. One of the most surprising facts about nicotine is the ability to stimulate PGC-1 Alpha, the key regulator for cellular energy metabolism—your mitochondria! This protein also participates in the regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. This is the same protein exercise stimulates, so this might be a reason why people gain weight when they stop smoking cigarettes. By the time I got finished writing about nicotine I realized that I had been extremely focused for about an hour without checking my phone or being distracted by other things around my house. This is already showing promising results. I was running late to a meeting so had to grab my stuff and storm out the door before noticing my blue tongue in the mirror. I went with it. Worst-case scenario people would ask where my tongue had been all day.

THE BENEFITS OF METHYLENE BLUE

Methylene blue is the ingredient responsible for turning the tongue blue. It’s a powerful cognitive enhancer and a very powerful antioxidant. It has been around for decades mainly used to treat methemoglobinemia—a condition in which tissues cannot get enough oxygen. It’s essentially a blue swiss army knife, it has a long list of benefits from up regulating the elastin on the skin, to treating malaria, and in Alzheimer's disease – it has recently attracted increasing scientific attention. It has been shown to reduce the formations of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles that lead to Alzheimer’s. And when it comes to the mitochondria, it has been shown to repair its function and cellular metabolism. So far I can tell there’s a common theme to the synergy of the ingredients. This blue square is a powerful mitochondria enhancer. Most diseases today, that end with “es,” or “is,” like diabetes, colitis, multiple sclerosis, are due to mitochondria dysfunction. You are only as young as your cells. A few years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I felt like I was 85 years old then. I spent months taking care of my mitochondria, making sure everything I ate or did would benefit my cell function. Today I feel 15 -- reverse aging does exist. By the time I got to my meeting I felt relaxed with a lot of stamina. That’s a hard combination to obtain. It wasn’t sloppy energy, like when you drink a cup of espresso --at least for me—but rather an in the moment feeling. Of course the first question was about my blue tongue, I explained what I had just learned in regards to nicotine. I noticed their body language lean in more towards me, trying to feed their curiosity. It was the best ice-breaker, they wanted to learn more and asked me if they could try it.

THE BREAKS: HEMPCANNA

See, when you drive a car, it doesn’t just have an accelerator; the car hopefully comes with brake pedal as well. When you drive, you use both, go, slow down and stop, go, slow down and stop. This is how the daily regulation of energy should be. You must go, but also must stop. And that’s how the hempcanna comes into play. The Troscriptions website explains it like this: “In this formula, we use a hemp oil Crystals, Beatifically Derived for its anti-inflammatory and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) effects. Given together with the nootropic ingredients above, this hemp oil smooths out the cognitive upgrade and prevents a sharpness or edginess that can develop when taking nicotine or other nootropic.” CBD like other cannabinoids binds to fat so letting it absorb in the mouth is the best way to efficiently absorb. So CBD is the brake in your car. And that’s exactly what I found it to feel like. I don’t have to explain the effects of the next ingredient, which is caffeine but I must say that it’s another big benefit to mitochondria function, since caffeine balances both the biogenesis and mitophagy of the mitochondria—when the stomach of your cells the lysosomes selectively eat dysfunctional mitochondria. So basically you destroy old mitochondria to make new ones, which can enhance aerobic metabolism. There has to be a balance. It is not surprising that the imbalance between mitochondrial proliferation and degradation processes triggers the beginning and progressive unfolding of several pathological conditions in humans.

BLUE CANNATINE: THE LONG TERM BENEFITS

During the next four hours I had forgotten I had taken the troche. I was in such flow all day. However, when I first took it, I was waiting for a headache to come. I’m not big on caffeine, or other nootropics because I usually end up with a headache. I was also scared I wasn’t going to sleep that night. Turns out the mitochondria play a big role on sleep. Everything you do to strengthen the mitochondria can also help you sleep better. The glymphatic system—the brain’s waste management uses mitochondria to remove cellular waste from the brain--mainly while you are sleeping. And so it all ties back together. You need antioxidants that can strengthen the mitochondria that will in turn give you both of the best things in life, energy, and sleep. Energy so you can continue to do the things you want to do, whether is starting a new venture, play with your dog, have connecting relationships, all require energy, which lead to happiness. As soon as I laid down in bed, I was able to sleep as usual. I didn’t see a difference in my sleep. I wouldn’t necessarily take it every day. There’s a fear in me that its effects would cease after everyday use, or that I would have to double my dosage. I want to be able to keep it as part of my arsenal for emergency use. However, I will take this with me, especially when traveling, for its antioxidant effects on the mitochondria, and overall cognitive support. Because when you are traveling on an airplane, this is when your mitochondria need the most support. Feeling brain fogged after a night of poor sleep? You better have this in handy. This can get you out of trouble. At the time of this writing you can sign up on their website: troscriptions.com/blue-cannatine to get on the email list and be the first to know when it goes on sale. I would recommend starting with a quarter first thing in the morning instead of the usual cup of coffee. You can increase the dosage as you go.
