Marula is a fruit tree native to South Africa. It’s often referred to as “the tree of life”. In warm months, it overflows with a golden-yellow fruit. Marula can be eaten raw, cooked into a jelly, fermented to make beer, or used in skincare to reduce damage caused by oxidative stress.
Once harvested, peeled and sun-dried, the fruit’s stones are crushed to free their nutrient-packed kernels. Pressing the marula kernels releases an oil that is oxidation-resistant so it keeps better than other oils without becoming rancid.
Marula contains four times as much Vitamin C as an orange which leads to a multitude of benefits. Marula is shown to stimulate cell turnover and cutaneous microcirculation. It also is rich in Vitamin E which helps protect cells from oxidative stress. The oleic acid and palmitic acid work together to maintain skin’s elasticity and hydration.
