The Most Important Line of Defense You Need to Know for Immunity

By Ingrid De La O , December 7, 2020

Your nose and stomach comprise your first line of defense against disease. Learn how they protect you and how to boost your immune system.

Why Boogers are Good for Health?

The mucus in your nose may be annoying, but it's actually there to keep you healthy. The drier your nose lining becomes, the more prone it is to infection. The mucus which lines the mucosa provides a physical barrier against invasion by pathogens. It traps pathogens when they enter the nasal cavity so they don't go to other parts of your body, like the lungs. Your mucosa has an antibody called IgA that prevents pathogenic microbes from attaching and invading cells.

You can find ImmunoglobinA (IgA) in grass-fed colostrum and raw milk. It is also available in supplements.

One of my favorite plant extract supplements on the go is oregano. It's active ingredient carvacrol, has amazing anti-viral and anti-bacterial benefits. You can also use oregano oil as a hand sanitizer. It stays longer on your hands than alcohol-based sanitizers.

You can purchase oregano nasal spray from North American Herb and Spice. It's made with sea salt in a springwater base and oil of oregano. It also contains several potentially healing herbs, like clove bud oil, bay leaf oil, and oil of sage.

What Does Your Stomach Acid Do for Immunity?

Hydrochloric acid is your stomach acid. Stick a finger in hydrochloric acid and it will start to dissolve right away, at least it should, if your stomach acid is strong and healthy. Its purpose is to destroy any pathogens, like bacteria and viruses that are introduced into your system in the foods you eat, the liquids you drink, or even by touching your mouth. Stress, tension, anxiety before eating, as well as deficiencies in some vitamins and minerals, like magnesium, can all cause insufficient hydrochloric acid (HCL).

It's important to get some of your minerals from a liquid source, not just from pills. Magnesium bicarbonate is a complex hydrated salt that exists only in water under specific conditions. It does not occur in solid form. Add magnesium to your filtered water to protect your hydrochloric acid.
